THE BLIZZARD OF RIGHT-WING LIES
Fox News, taglined "Fair and Balanced," is patently opinionated and biased, by their own admission and by the admission of their followers. With a wink, saying: "The other side does it too," they produce blatant corporate propaganda / infotainment disguised as "News." On February 3, 2005, Brit Hume, their anchor, cynically re-arranged the words of Franklin D. Roosevelt, taking whole phrases out of context and juxtaposing them to suggest a meaning diametrically opposed to their original intent. Words referring to a preliminary feature of Social Security were rearranged to refer to the permanent program, to suggest that Roosevelt's plan presaged and supports Bush's plan. This is blatant political bias, and betrays the public trust in broadcasting. It is far beyond anything Dan Rather did, it is deliberate, shameless distortion, done in the service of Looting Social Security. If Dan Rather had done the same thing, droves of Right-Wing letter writers would have bent the ears of everyone who mattered, and created a "panic" of recrimination. Instead, even though the lie has been publicly debunked, other Republican mouthpieces now repeat it, with their trademarked, glib cynicism.
Loyal Republicans, mindlessly buying into Dubya's smoke and mirrors, dutifully line up to admire the Emperor's latest set of new clothes, pretending that suddenly, out of nowhere, there is a "Social Security Crisis." Who's pressing for this? There are no grass roots citizen's groups up in arms about Social Security. It's the credit card and investment corporations that fund so-called "think tanks" like the Cato Institute that are rubbing their crooked hands in anticipation of the windfall they will get if Dubya can peddle their scheme. Social Security is the most efficiently run and cost-effective government program that has ever been. It certainly could stand some adjustments, but if Dubya's half-baked plan is enacted, the system will begin losing money on day one. It would take TWO TRILLION DOLLARS at the outset to effect his proposed transfer to private accounts. Why not just write a check directly to the investment corporations that will get to manage the whole mess? The simple fact is, there is no crisis, and the Neocon's transparent attempt to loot the system for the investment companies that will profit is one more insult to the intelligence of anyone with any intelligence to insult. [Private Accounts? What about Roth IRA's? They already exist!]
The grotesque hypocrisy of posing Bush as "concerned about the security of the next generation" while he ignores our security at this very moment is typical of the entire Neocon mess that has commandeered our government. While we spend Two Billion Dollars a day on the Iraq quagmire, the Neocons cut funding for police and fire departments, ignore our borders, and let mountains of unsecured containers into the country daily. Efforts to corral loose nuclear material in the Soviet Union (a Clinton era priority) languish, Bin Laden is forgotten, our clumsy imperialist blundering exacerbates Global Jihad, and meanwhile, so-called "Conservatives" feverishly obsess over infantile pretend-outrages like Terry Schiavo's feeding tube and "Abstinence Only" birth control. Bush's marketing team poses him as "concerned for the average American," but it's common knowledge that his base is the top 1% income bracket, and that middle and lower class Americans, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Honor of the Military, and our international reputation are all being dragged into the sewer of Neocon jerk-off fantasies. [Bush's hypocrisy is laid bare in this other case of life-support withdrawl. The Neocons are shamelessly politicising this issue as a distraction, and puppet Dubya's lines have him contradicting himself...]
If the Bush gang is so concerned about our future, why are they putting us so deep in debt? Back in the 80's, one of the main Republican whining points was "The Deficit." Just more smoke and mirrors. The deficits the Republicans are now running dwarf any in history. The money they are blowing in Iraq could pad Social Security for the next 300 years. The amount of money they're wasting could provide a golden parachute and luxurious retirement for every last U.S. citizen, or be invested in the future by funding education and infrastructure - but no, that would be in the Public Interest, not a strong point in this administration.
They sold us Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq that did not exist, now they're trying to scam us with a Social Security ripoff.
The patronizing, racist Neocon delusion that we can start a trend of Western-Style Capitalism (read: profits for Halliburton, Exxon, Wal-Mart, etc.) in the Middle East epitomizes the insular, dim-witted Texan political method that has stolen our democracy. In a complete absence of familiarity with Middle Eastern values or the ways of the world in general outside of Crawford, and drunk on concocted Reagan Mythology, worm-eaten armchair hawks like Paul Wolfowitz are betting the farm on the notion that if we just wave a cheeseburger in front of them, they'll fall into line and start driving SUVs and running up credit card debt on vulgar displays of consumerism just like any good American. "Hell, they're all just running around in their pajamas over there, anyway."
Corporate-funded pretend news mouthpieces like Fox or Limbaugh spend time on the U.N.'s problems, the Michael Jackson trial, or fake moral outrage issues, ignoring the 50 or so people dying daily in Iraq. Now that we are the "guardians" of Iraq, those aren't just "more ragheads," those people dying every day are OUR responsibility. The Iraqi soldiers that we've managed to train are OUR military property, paid for with OUR dollars, and when bunches of them get killed every day, WE are the ones that are taking casualties. The Right-Wing media (centrist media organs have been whipped into submission by the feverish schoolyard chants of the Limbaughs and the O'Reilly's) focuses on puff pieces, and news that rubs salt into the ever-open wound of pretend "moral issues."
The idiotic lie that the Cheney-Rumsfeld-Wolfowitz strategy in the struggle against terrorism is making us safer would be funny if it wasn't so serious. The knuckle-dragging hillbilly mentality of Reaganistic bluster and sabre rattling is precisely the opposite of what we should be doing. Unfortunately, we have now kicked the hornet's nest, and pretend as we might, we're going to get stung, again. Three months after the Iraqi election, Iraq still has no government, and no stability. If Israel couldn't seed western-style democracy over there in 50 years, what makes these snot-nosed twerps running our government think they can do it in one election cycle? And where is Osama? This isn't some high school play, Dubya.
The criminal activities of Tom DeLay, Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz, and Bush Incorporated are shunted to the back burner, while glassy-eyed, jaded United States citizens cling to the flavor of the week, weary of hearing about the Middle East, 9/11, or the systematic looting of our economy and environment. Lazy, irresponsible, complacent, tree-hating Republicans, full of a sense of entitlement, glibly dismiss criticism and reality, thumb their noses at restraint or a rational approach, and wallow petulantly in their playpens of privilege. Pretending they're in an Ayn Rand novel, their myopic world-view comforts them with the fantasy of Global Suburbia and endless, limitless expansion of their bloated, spiritually bankrupt gas-hog esthetic.
The United States of America has turned a fateful corner. We are no longer a democracy. The Global Corporate that has taken over depends on the stupidity of the 50.8% of the population that have bought into this travesty to incubate their plans for world domination. Milking the American population and keeping it happy and ignorant by despoiling the world is the perfect formula. They know that in 20 years or less the whole thing will collapse into a nightmare that will make the Great Depression look like a tea party. They know that the United States will one day resemble India in it's squalor and degradation. But why should they worry? Their bank accounts are getting fatter every minute. Ever heard of "Gated Communities?" IRS prosecution of individuals and middle income people is way up, while corporate loopholes are wider than ever. They just had Dubya sign a bill that makes it more difficult for individuals to declare bankruptcy, while his cronies get away with billions, funneled into Bahamian or Swiss bank accounts.
This is not crackpot conspiracy theory, it is fact. The lie that Clinton did nothing about terrorism is disgraceful. The Clinton team was having daily meetings about Jihad, Radical Islam, and Bin Laden. The people that bombed WTC the first time were captured, and are still behind bars. When Clinton left office, multiple, specific recommendations were in place for dealing with the situation, which in it's infantile glee, the Neocon White House systematically ignored. Volumes of carefully acquired military intelligence about Iraq were dismissed, and high ranking, reputable military leaders who told the truth and didn't play along were driven out. The popular Republican lie that Clinton had Bin Laden in his grasp and let him get away is absolute bunk, and has been completely refuted (911 Commission Report), but it's still repeated by disgraceful, traitorous, lying shills like Limbaugh, Hannity, Hume, and O'Reilly.
NINE BILLION DOLLARS "MISSING?" Halliburton (Vice President Cheney's former Empire), who has exclusive contracts on reconstruction in Iraq has absconded with almost 20 Billion dollars, and again, because of media complicity and fear, it's being ignored. Here is an excerpt of a detailed report of Halliburton's looting of the United States taxpayers:
"July 26, 2004, CPA IG audit report found that Halliburton "did not effectively manage government property" and that the company's property records "were not sufficiently accurate or available to properly account for CPA property items." The IG "projected that property valued at more than $18.6 million was not accurately accounted for or was missing." (from: Coalition Provisional Authority Inspector General, Audit of the Accountability and Control of Material Assets of the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad (July 26, 2004). ) "
One Billion Seconds is 32 and a half years...
One Trillion seconds is Thirty-two-thousand, five hundred years...
If Ann Coulter can pass her hateful,
shrill, ranting ridicule off as legitimate op-ed, so can I.
